About Us: Our History

A key part of our About Us section is our remarkable heritage. Booths Music is not only the oldest independent family-run music shop in Bolton, but also in the UK—and quite possibly the world. In the summer of 1832, James Booth and his son Thomas opened the shop as “instrument makers” and “sellers of music.” Since then, seven generations of the Booth family have welcomed thousands of musicians through our doors.

About Us: Instrument Repairs

Instrument repairs have been a feature of Booths Music for generations. In the 1900s, the shop sold and assisted with brass products as well as more popular instruments at the time such as pianofortes.

Today the workshop is going stronger than ever with Tony, who has decades of experience in this field, as well as his son Will on guitar repairs.

The workshop is open for guitar setups and general repairs, woodwind services as well as brass and string jobs. We can also assist with effects and amplifier repairs.
