Brass Instrument Repairs

“Our brass instrument repairs are designed to restore reliability, improve response and help players perform with confidence.”

Brass instrument repairs have been a core feature of the Booths Music workshop from day one. Brass instruments rely on precision engineering, airtight seals and smooth mechanical action, and even minor faults can have a major impact on tone, intonation and ease of playing.

Brass Instrument Repairs With Booths

At Booths, we carry out brass repairs on a wide range of instruments, including trumpets, cornets, euphoniums, French horns, tubas and other valved brass instruments. Whether your instrument is sticking, leaking air, difficult to tune or simply not responding as it should, our experienced workshop can diagnose and resolve the issue.

Valve Alignment

A key part of many brass instrument repairs is valve honing and valve alignment. Smooth, accurately fitted valves are essential for fast, reliable action and proper airflow. Worn or dirty valves can cause sticking, sluggish response and air leaks, all of which make playing far more difficult. Our valve work restores smooth movement and consistent performance.

Tricky Slides

We also undertake the easing and realignment of slides, ensuring they move freely while maintaining an airtight seal. Tricky or seized slides are a common issue with brass instruments and can greatly affect tuning and maintenance. As part of the service, slides are cleaned, adjusted and lubricated for dependable operation.

Corks, Felts & Bumpers

The replacement of corks, felts and bumpers is another important aspect of brass repairs. Worn or missing felts can lead to noisy action, poor valve alignment and excessive wear on the instrument. Renewing these components improves feel, reduces noise and protects the instrument from long-term damage.

Recent Reviews

After buying a second hand trumpet elsewhere, I took it into the shop and had it cleaned and serviced by Tony, who did an excellent job with it for a very reasonable price. He even took it back into his workshop at no extra cost, a week or so later, when one of the valves was sticking again - and I have had no problems with it since!

"My six year old flute was beginning to sound breathy and it was getting hard to play top notes clearly (I thought it was me). Tony serviced my flute last week. It sounds like a brand new flute! It sings again 🎶. Tony replaced a faulty key pad and sorted out the cork mechanism which was moving around. Thank you so much. I’ll be back again next year for its next service 🙂"
